The Eurasian Blackcap (Sylvia atricapilla) is a common warbler breeding almost throughout Europe and migrating up to South Africa in the winter months. The small birds occupy woodlands, but also venture off into more open terrains every now and then. They feed mainly on insects and spiders, but also eat berries and fruits. Since the species is so common in Europe, you can find plenty of information on it in books as well as online – anyhow, I photographed my first Eurasian Blackcap only last weekend during a short afternoon walk through the small Dosenmoor in northern Germany and wanted to share the results with you! This wetland-visit proved very successful with quite a few interesting species, including a White Stork capturing a snake, a European Stonechat, and a Red-backed Shrike.
