The Rüppell’s Korhaan (Eupodotis rueppellii) is a small bustard species occurring only in Namibia and southwestern Angola. The birds can be found singly, in pairs or in small family groups walking on the ground and pecking on small invertebrates or reptiles as well as seeds and succulent leaves. They prefer sandy or gravel plains in semi-desert areas where the monogamous pairs take care of 1 to 3 hatchlings each season. The Rüppell’s Korhaan is known to fiercely and aggressively protect their nests from intruders, even humans. I have seen these birds in southern Namibia in February 2007.

Einfach tolle Fotos.
