Eurasian Blue Tit
The Eurasian Blue Tit (Cyanistes caeruleus) is a very common small bird occurring almost throughout Europe and western Asia. The tits favor deciduous or mixed woodlands with a high proportion of oaks, but are also regular inhabitants of gardens and parks – even within city limits. Their prefered diet consists of spiders and insects, but during winter months they also eat seeds and other plant parts. Consequently, the Eurasian Blue Tit is a typical sight at any bird feeder. The birds breed in tree holes, but also use artificial nest boxes. There are several million blue tits living in Germany alone and very often this will be the first bird you see after leaving the house. Due to this abundance, I almost always neglect these little pretty birds. I once took a photograph of a breeding individual at a nest box in May 2014 (see below), but the other photos in this post are from December 2014. Unfortunately, the weather was quite bad with an overcast sky as well as alternating rain and snow.

ach nein, wie süß … v.a. das letzte Bild. Ich muss unweigerlich an “Daheim” denken und die vielen Futterhäuschen und Nistkästen im Garten 🙂
haha – ja, Blaumeisen sind wirklich hübsche kleine Vögel!! Leider fällt einem das oft gar nicht mehr so auf, weil sie einfach so häufig sind…
