European Robin

The European Robin (Erithacus rubecula) is a small bird occurring in Europe and parts of northern Africa. Originally, the birds favour different kinds of forests as their habitats, preferably near to water bodies. Today, they are regular inhabitants of gardens, parks, and cemeteries. They feed mainly on invertebrates including spiders, insects, and small earthworms. Soft seeds and fruits constitute only a minor part of their diet. Robins can become very trusting and commonly have a small flight distance. If you work in your garden, they often keep your company in the hope of catching some disturbed insects. This way, it is relatively easy to observe these little and particularly beautiful birds. I have taken the photographs in this post in April 2015.
