Mantled Howler
The Mantled Howler (Alouatta palliata) or Golden-Mantled Howling Monkey is a medium-sized primate occurring in parts of Central and Southern America (Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru). The animals live in groups of up to 40 members and inhabit mostly rainforests. Their diet is dominated by leaves, but also includes fruits and flowers. Mantled Howlers are diurnal and spend most of their time climbing in the forest canopy. Their name derives from the very loud calls made by the males which can be heard for several kilometers. I have photographed these interesting primates in the jungle near the Fort San Lorenzo and on Barro Colorado Island in Panama (February and March 2014).

Ok…I confess that sometimes monkeys creep me out…but this little fellow is a cutie. 🙂
and it was a great experience to see and hear the howlers… however, I heard that the monkeys were defecating and urinating at/on other tourists arriving later at the scene… 😉
