Eurasian Tree Sparrow
The Eurasian Tree Sparrow (Passer montanus) is a small bird species native to temperate Europe, Asia, and Southeast Asia. In addition, it has been introduced to parts of North America, the Philippines, Micronesia, and Australia. The birds feed mainly on seeds, but insects, spiders, and other invertebrates supplement their diet. In Asia, the species can be found within human cities and villages, but in Europe this habitat is largely occupied by the House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) and tree sparrows here live mainly in lightly wooded open countryside. Where their ranges overlap, both species can be distinguished by their colouration quite readily. In particular, the lack of plumage differences between males and females is characteristic of the Eurasian Tree Sparrow. The gregarious birds live in monogamous pairs with dust bathing as their favourite pastime. The photographs in this post are from northern Germany (April-May 2015).

ahh nice to see. I was just looking at the American Tree Sparrow which looks somewhat different except for the brown on the head 🙂
thank you! good that you mention it… although there are some similarities between both species and the names might suggest some affinity, they are actually unrelated and even belong to different families!
