Germany 2017: Bamberg

Bamberg, Bavaria:

Old Town Hall

Old Town Hall

In May, I spent a sunday in the beautiful town of Bamberg in northern Bavaria.

Some consider Bamberg to be the most attractive town of Germany and its old city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The city centre is full of historic houses and dotted by several impressive churches. Maybe the most prominent is the Bamberg Cathedral which houses the Emperor’s Tomb by famous sculptor and wood carver Tilman Riemenschneider (1460-1531). Other must-sees are the Old Town Hall sitting on a tiny island within the Regnitz River, the Michaelsberg Abbey offering great views, and the colony of former fishermen’s houses called ‘Little Venice’.

I truly enjoyed my day in Bamberg, but soon I was to leave Germany again to go on my long-awaited holiday to Scandinavia – check out my coming posts!

  1. you know what people in Bamberg hate most? Being called “Bavarians” 😀 😀 😉
Unfortunately Michelsberg Abbay is still closed. It’s one of the most beautiful churches … and there’s a go-through-tomb of Saint Otto 😀

  2. About 30 years ago I studied in Bamberg and it is a t0wn not only beautiful to look at but also a town with a relaxed and happy lifestyle. Thanks for those beautiful pictures, they brought back happy memories 🙂
