I took the public bus from Vilnius to nearby Trakai to visit its famous castle.
Trakai is a popular destination due to a beautiful castle built in the 14th century CE on a small island in the middle of Lake Galvė. The setting with the red brick fortress is really impressive, but unfortunately I was unlucky with the weather. A steady rain started shortly after my arrival, which lowered my enthusiasm for long walks along the lake’s shores. Instead I only toured the castle and visited some of the minor sights of Trakai, such as two churches and the local kenesa.
I cut my visit somewhat short and returned to Vilnius in order to get out of the rain and back into dry clothes.
