There are around 1500 different species of scorpions (Scorpiones) known on our planet and since I am not a specialist I really don’t know the name of the species I have photographed (maybe you can help me?). Nevertheless, on a night walk through the Adolfo Ducke Forest Reserve near Manaus, Brazil, in September 2010, I have seen an amazing trait of these animals which I never heard of before: scorpions glow when they are exposed to ultraviolet light! The effect is due to fluorescent chemicals in their cuticle and helps very much if you are a zoologist searching for these critters at night! I tried to capture the phenomenon, but since the nature of the process involves a lot of darkness, the photos are a little bit blurred. For comparison I also posted photographs of the same individuals using a normal flash. Do you like it?
ive seen these before. they have them at a wildlife refuge near me. theyre really awesome. dont know the name though
We have scorpions here in Arizona. I’ve never seen one. I hope they never find me.

I think I would prefer to not get my fingers near them. I’m happy to admire them from your photos. 😀
