The Spotted Owlet (Athene brama) is a small owl occurring mainly in South and Southeast Asia. The comparatively common birds are mostly nocturnal, hunting for insects and smaller rodents. They breed in cavities of old trees or even vertical embankments. I have seen and photographed a couple of these owls during a visit to the Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan, India, in January 2010.
