India 2018 (part III): Mumbai 2

Mumbai, Maharashtra:

Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station

After returning from Meghalaya, I again had a short stopover in Mumbai, which I used to explore the city centre with a good friend.

The city centre of Mumbai is dotted with architectural highlights definitely worth a visit. Among the most prominent are the Municipal Corporation Building, the General Post Office, the building of the Asiatic Society, St. Thomas Church, the Oriental Building, the University of Mumbai, the Maharashtra Police Headquarters, the Gateway of India, and the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. However, the absolute masterpiece is surely the fantastic Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station (formerly known as the Victoria Terminus)! My friend managed to take me on a guided tour where you can really experience the grandeur of the building with its intricately ornamented facades full of animal sculptures. I loved it!

After the stopover in Mumbai, work called me to Ahmedabad in Gujarat from where I would conduct field work in the coming days.
